Our Mission
Our mission is to establish a safe haven far removed from the persistent noise and daily pressures of the city. We build strong collaborative bridges with community entities and regional networks throughout the Sacramento and Reno metropolitan areas to pull individuals directly off the streets.
By relocating them to the tranquility of our rural country setting, residents participate in a dedicated season of profound rehabilitation. Here, away from urban distractions, they are systematically reconstructed — mentally, spiritually, and physically — allowing God to restore them to sanity and a life of purposeful sobriety.
Our Vision
Jeremiah’s House is being built as a complete recovery ecosystem — not just a program, but a living, breathing community of restoration.
- Desert Ranch Facility — Our Nevada property will serve as the anchor of the program. Remote, peaceful, and surrounded by open land, this is where the deepest restoration happens. Away from the triggers and chaos of city life, residents can finally hear themselves think — and hear God speak.
- Metropolitan Sober Houses — Structured transitional housing in the Sacramento and Reno areas to support residents as they reintegrate into society. A bridge between the ranch and independent living.
- No-Kill Animal Rescue — We know that many people living on the streets refuse to enter shelters because they will not leave their animals behind. At Jeremiah’s House, your pet comes with you. Animals are housed in a dedicated kennel area where residents have daily access to them and are responsible for their care.
- Garden and Agricultural Program — Residents tend a working garden, care for chickens, and work with small animals. Getting your hands in the soil, caring for living things, taking responsibility for something other than yourself — these activities heal the soul in ways that talk therapy alone cannot reach.
- Employment Pipeline — We have established relationships with regional employers who will hire our residents directly. Getting back to work is not separate from recovery — it is part of it. Work builds dignity, structure, and self-worth.
- Vocational Training — Residents learn real-world skills during their time in the program, building confidence and marketability before they reenter the workforce.
What Makes Us Different
We welcome your pets. We work with courts and probation as well as self-referred participants. We are faith-based but we do not discriminate — if you are human and in need, you are welcome here. We believe restoration is possible regardless of past failures. And we know from experience that the people who want to change most desperately are often the ones society has written off entirely.

Our Founder
Jeremiah’s House was founded by F.R. Shumake, whose own journey through addiction, incarceration, and recovery became the foundation for this vision. After rebuilding his life through faith, accountability, and service, Fred committed himself to creating a place where others could experience the same opportunity for lasting transformation.
His vision extends beyond temporary recovery. Jeremiah’s House is being designed as a complete restoration community where individuals can heal spiritually, emotionally, physically, and vocationally while preparing for long-term independence and success.
Why Jeremiah?
The name Jeremiah’s House carries a personal meaning that goes to the very heart of this ministry. Years ago, during one of the darkest seasons of my life, I was alone in the Nevada desert — broken, desperate, and running out of road. A stranger appeared and offered help. He told me his name was Jeremiah.
I believe that moment was a divine appointment. I believe Jeremiah was sent. And I have never forgotten what it felt like to have someone reach out a hand in the darkness and simply say — I’m here.
That is what Jeremiah’s House will be for every person who walks through our gate. A hand in the darkness. A voice that says you are not too far gone.
